Hi, I’m Peter Van Schoick. I’m an independent author based in Indianapolis who also happens to be a dad, drum teacher, avid reader, chess player, watch enthusiast, recovering salesman, and major history nerd. And I almost lost it all.
At the ripe old age of 39, I suffered catastrophic heart failure. I had open heart surgery, spent some time in a coma and ultimately relied on an LVAD to keep my heart pumping for the next three years.
I started piecing together words and phrases again and thought about how amazing language is. Once I was physically able to write again, I jotted down the words and phrases which not only kept me company but kept by brain sharp and for that I was thankful. What began as a creative outlet became a collection of quirky, unexpected, and playful books designed to make people smile. I started with my first book, The Malphabet. Then over the next 2 years, Cymbalism, Humblebee, and my upcoming release, Birdwatch came to be.
The books have also received some great recognition — Ken Jennings featured The Malphabet on his podcast, The Omnibus, and gave permission for his quote about the book to appear on future editions.
